Instinct is more useful in sexual circumstances than in most other common situations. However, knowledge is also vital for safety, satisfaction, and comfort.
Before we get involved with anyone sexually, we should know some basic information about them, including whether they've been tested for sexually transmitted infections recently (also see the 'protection' key), whatever details of their sexual history we find important, and what their expectations are. Education about sex includes all of the other topics listed in my Keys. Educate yourself about what gets you off through masturbation and experimentation. Then share your findings with your partners so they won't be shooting in the dark (though experimentation can be fun there too). Learn enough about yourself sexually and about your partners personally so that you will comfortable having open discussion about your sexual preferences, fetishes, concerns, and expectations. PLEASE educate yourself about safer sex practices and then use them. Learn how to relax but pay attention, enjoy receiving but learn to reciprocate, and get creative with imaginative new ways to express your sexuality alone or with partners. Read the additional Keys for more information about all of these subjects. |
